What: Annual "Christmas Concert and Tea" in its fifteenth year!

Who: featuring special guest, Saxophonist, Dr. Christopher Brellochs, along with appearances from  our favorite regional musicians offering an eclectic combination of instruments and styles.

Why: A yearly event to benefit the ongoing restoration of the historic church building.

As a both a classical and jazz saxophonist Christopher Brellochs has performed extensively throughout New York City from venues such as Birdland to the prestigious Carnegie Hall. International performances have included the 2018 World Saxophone Congress, (Zagreb, Croatia), Selmer Paris and Vandoren showrooms (Paris, France), and the 2015 World Saxophone Congress (Strasbourg, France).

His 2018-2019 sabbatical project called, “Music of the Gilded Age in the Hudson Valley,” included the research, performance and presentation of music in historic mansions, and the creation of documentary films. 

Brellochs’ recordings include Quiet City (2011) which features the world premiere recording of Aaron Copland’s complete incidental music for Quiet City; Brellochs worked from the unpublished manuscript to bring this adaptation to life, which The Copland Estate and Boosey & Hawkes have embraced and published. The recording received radio play on National Public Radio: Weekend Edition and Performance Today.

Brellochs teaches saxophone at Vassar College and is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Academy of Music at the State University of New York (SUNY) Dutchess Community College (Poughkeepsie, New York).

Mothers' Day Service, May, 2011

The Three Friends Baroque Ensemble played for the Congregation for a special Mothers' Day service in May, 2011.

December, 2010  The annual Christmas Concert drew accustomed crowds to Smithfield Church to enjoy a variety of holiday musical selections.

October, 2010    As part of an “Organ Crawl”, visitors were treated to concerts showcasing organs situated in four 19th century churches in Amenia, New York. The final stop was at The Smithfield Church, where guest organist and friend, Will Carter, performed a virtuosic demonstration of the Johnson and Son instrument, built in 1893, and installed at Smithfield Church. He was joined by Matt Finley on piccolo trumpet.

September, 2010  Kent Tritle, Organist of the New York Philharmonic, and Choral Director of the Oratorio Society of New York, visited Smithfield Church to present a Sunday afternoon concert.
